Any celebration when hosted by the respected and well loved familia Ablaza will always be something to look forward to for its uniqueness and glamour. But more than that is the feeling of importance of an occasion through a setting that is very well executed, luxurious and yet very welcoming that gives a good lasting impression. And who else is responsible for such awe inspiring celebrations than the warm hearted, stylish and of course artistic Luis ‘Jun Jun’ Ablaza III who recently held his exhibit / birthday gala at the Manila Polo Club in the posh Forbes Park in Makati.

It was truly an event to remember, and one for the books which could definitely be called as the Party of the Year.
On that wonderful evening all the well heeled and stylish guests who came in full force wearing their creative black ensembles were treated to a whole new world far beyond to what one’s imagination could grasp and conceive. After the birthday ceremonies, Ablaza who was impeccable in white, silver and diamonds led the opening of the curtains that revealed a hall from another place and another time. Even the most hardened veterans of Manila High Society’s extravagant soirees were still amazed at the visual feast and fantasy that was given life by Ablaza to be enjoyed. Upon entering we definitely felt as if an otherworldy kingdom sprouted right in the heart of the city! We’re not only in another grand soiree but on a journey in Ablaza‘s unfathomable and seemingly boundless mind full of innovative ideas and BLAZING imagination. And that journey led us to a dimension where we wined and dined in the presence of mythological beings whose enclaves and legendary feasts could only be heard through stories passed through generations. And yet those kingdoms whose existence are only in legends came to being in the form of innovative three dimensional table decorations and settings with one of a kind accessories giving us a wonderful make-believe experience of DINING WITH THE GODS.
The table of the god of air
Despite the grandiose and impressive tableaus, I never felt that this was made by anyone whose sole purpose was just to impress but rather to INSPIRE, to SHARE, and to LIVEN UP the occassion. These are made by a true artist whose heart is to transform his visions into reality and whose thirst and passion is to create the impalpable to be felt. This is the creation of someone whose eloquence is through his skillful planning and production to transform an intimate event or a gala into a fascinating place with interesting conversation pieces and an atmosphere of enchantment that could linger in one’s mind. Years before I met him, I have already seen many of his works featured in different publications. And through those years I have not seen one or any of his works to be unvaried and usual. Ablaza definitely is a trail blazer, his ideas and concepts are far beyond his time! More than just having a good taste and an eye for what is exceptional and of excellent quality, he also has an inquisitive mind that explores and tests the unusual making him a maven of the decorative arts. His insatiable curiosity led him to create something eclectic, extraordinary and non conforming rather than trendy. His works are a depiction of a story rather than just a colorful visual treat put together. The diversity of materials, and every single decorative elements that he combines together interestingly creates not just simply a centerpiece but a scene that could be theatrical or amusing and sometimes elegant yet poetic that could tickle the imagination or awaken the senses.
What Ablaza has created for numerous events are just proofs of his sensibilities as an artist whose aesthetic is guided and inspired by his travels and passion as a collector, as well as his sensitivity to the art of entertaining that has proven time and time again to be essential to the success of an occasion.
