A Mad Tea Party!

Embedded deep within the recesses of our minds are chambers where we can find images of childhood dreams and dark secrets. And here I explored one of those fantasies in a whimsical, colorful ironic twist portraying fabricated personas yet showing the realities of their personalities behind their illusions. I invite you to be my guest on this tangled tale of a tea party of mess and craziness! This is a Mad Hatter’s afternoon gathering in a make believe world of Wonderland where a complex group of individuals portray their wild juvenile fantasies with flamboyance, gaudiness, and crankiness. And let us begin this brief journey with one of our characters, the white rabbit who is in a hurry looking worried at his watch striking six, and holding a card on the other with the words written “You are invited to tea”.

Come hither quickly! Come follow him hop and run through the bushes and to disappear behind an old oak tree and slide down through a dark and mysterious magical rabbit hole, and unlock a key that opens to a path that leads to a dense woodland through a clearing where a table was setup for important guests of a most unusually crazy and whimsical soiree!

The Dorky boy as the White Rabbit

”Oh my furry whiskers, I’m late! I’m late! For a very important date!” The library and the laboratory are his lairs, and he is seen as a clever one but for him that is not entirely true. He oftentimes despise his boring lifestyle which he is accustomed to, he also dreamed of going wild and explore the madness of the world outside his own.

The Vamp as the Sinister Alice

“I wonder if I’ve been changed in the night. Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I’m not the same, the next question is ‘Who in the world am I?’ Ah, that’s the great puzzle!”  She definitely knows how to charm people around her, but unbelievably she is tired of that facade and wants that villainous scheming side of her to be released which she constantly and secretly hides.

The Eccentric as The Mad Hatter

“Have you any idea why a raven is like a writing desk?” In his twisted mind are a thousand and one riddles, unheard of stories, crazy fantasies and out of this world ideas for fun and parties that he steadfastly think and believe are enticing and praiseworthy. But then everything he does only drives everyone around him entirely bonkers.

The Geeky Girl as a Seductive Cheshire Cat

“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here.I’m mad. You’re mad..you must be, or you couldn’t have come here.” In her world, it’s all about books, and enrichment of her big brains which she is aware of. But she is envious and can’t hide her fantasy to also attract men fatally physically aside from her overflowing wit.

The Brat as a Spoiled King of Hearts

“Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.” Bored and hardly fascinated after having everything in his disposal yet being envied by many for his privileged life. The pampered and spoiled kid would just lie in an idle afternoon in his own bubble kingdom of make believe, wanting for an exciting turn, but too lazy and afraid to try the things he never tried before, he lacks passion and is drowned in apprehension.

The Queen Bee as the Fierce Red Queen

She often shrieks in command “Off with his head!” whenever she has a disloyal subject, or anyone she dislikes. Arrogant, proud and obviously full of malevolence, she sees herself as the the most important ruler feared by her minions, yet she sometimes forget about her brashness, bossiness and her lofty status when she enjoys and let loose of herself just like another young girl at any party.

The Bully as a Gangster Guard of Cards

“Yes your highness, at once your majesty!” Tired of following orders he wished to break free. And so he did, and went far and wide and braved a lot of adventures and became the master of his own destiny. But distracted by a leisurely life, vices and money, he soon became involved in a series of unfortunate events and was held as a captive in a life of notoriety.

The Shy and Naive as the Ethereal White Queen

“You cannot live your life to please others. The choice must be yours, because when you step out to face that creature, you will step out alone.” Too sweet and too good to be true, she is praised and revered as if she can do nothing but be nice, be an admirable paragon of good manners and be looking vulnerable and too  fragile at all times. Yet behind her naivete personality is a sturdy fierce character that explodes when induced. As they say still waters run deep, and the deeper it runs the darker it becomes.

Professional Models Fashion Academy launch

We were just in time to be able to assist some of the young aspiring models before the show began in Teatro Marikina where we got invited for the launch of Professional Models Fashion Academy ( PMFA) headed by our good friend, the fab Dren Pacson. I was with my stylist/designer friend Jane Econar who was still able to attend and help despite her very hectic schedule that day. The dressing rooms backstage was in a state of what I would like to call a fashionable chaos hehe. The air is filled with excitement and nervousness while everyone is in a hurry running to and fro with clothes and accessories scattered almost everywhere. In the daze of the moment even the neckpiece that I’m wearing got its way to adorn one of the girls, talk about instantly being stripped of your personal fashion statement haha! Of course I permitted it, and is understandable, and I’m very glad to be of assistance to these young models, they wanted to look their best until the very last second when the emcee queued the start of the program. Before we know it, the lights turned on in a snap and the show began.

The models were presented wearing earth colored ensembles, and on the second part or finale they reappeared all dressed up in black. As I watched them, I thought they are very promising, but among them, there are only a few who strikingly stood out. I even have my own favorites! But they are all still young, and could further develop their personality and presence on the ramp with the help of the dynamic PMFA mentors. And once they are armed with the right attitude, modelling skills, and charisma, these next gen fashion models definitely could someday conquer catwalks.

pmfa 004Dynamic people! Clockwise from top left: On my left is my friend Jane Econar, we’re flanked by PMFA mentors- model Eia Balaccua(left) ,and Lhee Murias(right)  / me, Lhee Murias, model Idelweiss Omelig, Eia Balaccua, and PMFA head manager Dren Pacson  / One Avenue artist manager Drake Devera, me, Lhee Murias, Idelweiss Omelig / me with Dren Pacson / Eia Balaccua and Idelweiss Omelig are both fierce and divine on stage.

Behind the curtains, before hitting the stage, the anxious models got to take a deep breath and ease their tensions as they got entertained by the voices of the very talented all male singing group One Avenue. It was the very first time I heard these guys sing, and I was impressed by both their looks and performance. Definitely they provided that much needed party vibe and caught the audience’s attention.

pmfa 009Backstage pass and selfies: With Jane and Eia while we tensely watched the models strutt their stuff.

After the show, I had the chance to meet the members and manager of One Avenue, as well as some of the young promising models of PMFA, and we had a never ending photo op I swear haha! After all the excitement, and while the night is still young, together with these vibrant group of talented individuals we went out to celebrate the show’s success, unwind, relax and party! Surely it was a night of 3F’s.. Fashion, Fun and Friendships!

These singing sensations do need a break sometimes, and we had a fun-filled evening of course!

pmfa 008At last after the show we had an opportunity to have an ootn (outfit of the night) photos haha!

To PMFA congratulations and be fabulous! To One Avenue, more power and soar!  🙂

“The secret to modeling is not being perfect. What one needs is a face that people can identify in a second. You have to be given what’s needed by nature, and what’s needed is to bring something new.”      ― Karl Lagerfeld
